Capture the Flag - the need for urban games

A few months ago I talked about a game I was playing on Brick Lane one Friday nite. That game was Capture the Flag and on the playmakers website they have a video of what happened. The video is a general discussion of the need for more urban games with a guy from UCL ( University College London) discussing the social importance. Plus if u c a brown guy with a stripy pink top, thats me.

UK: British-Muslim fashion

UK: British-Muslim fashion The Guardian interviews Sarah Elenany, who designs clothing for Muslim women. She wants to make clothing relevant to Muslims, but also appealing to non-Muslims. Towards the end of the interview, she's asked if she encountered any opposition. She answers that she had: from Muslim men who think her designs are not modest enough. See video interview here. h/t euroISLAM Some person made a comment about it as follows: The restrictions that Islam places upon women are to 'protect the modesty of women'. Another way of saying it: Control. Islam is VERY domineering. Not just over women. Islam has severe restrictions upon Muslim men as well. Not to mention infidels who live under Islamic rule. This is what i said bak: yes but for some it may assume domineering but when u actually find imaan it actually is freedom (if it was to exist) For example, a women wearing a scaft to cover herself is has more free then a women who doesn't. Why? Because whn a women covers' herself up she can not be judged on how big her arse is, how big her boobs are, what colour she is, what brand she wears. You can only judge HER on who she is, not what she wears. Plus, high heels and make up are not requirements for a women who covers up. It seems such a shame today that women are willing to both oppress themselves and oppress other women for not following the status quo, which coincidently is controlled by a capital force. MAKE A COMMENT N TELL US WHAT U FINK! Peace Out

Adbusters #85, Thought Control in Economics, hits the newsstands‏

Attention jammers, activists and cultural creatives:

THE CREATIVE DESTRUCTION OF NEOCLASSICAL ECONOMICS

Deep in a recession and with scary ecological scenarios looming, now may be the ripest moment we’ll ever have to power-shift global capitalism onto a new path. Adbusters #85 asks economics students around the world to join the fight to revamp Econ 101 curriculums and challenge the endemic myopia of their tenured neoclassical profs. Go to KICKITOVER.ORG, read a few texts, download the Kick it Over Manifesto (and other posters) and whack them up in the corridors of your campus. Make sure your university is at the forefront of the current paradigm shift from neoclassical to ecological economics. To subscribe visit www.adbusters.org/subscribe. If you’re an economics student, email kevin@adbusters.org to receive a free issue.

PHYSICAL VS. VIRTUAL REALITY

Have you noticed the contours of your life changing with every must-have technological innovation and minute spent on the Internet? Have you detected any differences in your once richly textured, wildly spontaneous way of being? Have you begun to suspect that the more interconnected you are, the flatter, duller and more predictable your existence becomes?

A specter is haunting the mind of the industrialized world – the specter of the virtual. -Metaverse Manifesto, Orange Montagne

At what point did our computers go from being a tool to enhance our lives to a medium through which to live our lives? -Alan Beck

As the physical world slips away and our culture flattens, the bluish glow of the virtual realm beckons … Suddenly humanity is faced with an existential choice. Will we take the plunge? We’re brainstorming on Adbusters #86 – a vehement investigation of Physical vs. Virtual Reality. Tell us what you think. Send your wildest missives to editor@adbusters.org.

I BELIEVE IN MEDIA DEMOCRACY

Leonard Asper, Canada’s most pernicious media mogul is appealing our stunning recent legal victory against him. Our lawyers tell us he has close to zero chance of winning, he’s just trying to deplete our coffers and make us run out of money before we can finish the fight. Don't let him get away with it! Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights says that every human being has the right to communicate: to seek, receive and impart information without hindrance. This freedom of speech battle is of tremendous importance for democracy in the dangerous times ahead … help us fight it … first in Canada and then in the US, the UK and Australia. We need to fill up our legal war chest right away: help us by donating.

everything is ok, as they say.......

Basically a guy in the midlle of central with a sign saying everything is ok and uses a megaphone to tell people this, however the police and private security companies do not seem to enjoy it as much. A friend of mine showed me this video on the tube an it is very funny, especially when they get justice for incompetent police officers. I'm not sure who the guy is but he is either a cop or a barrister. PS Can any1 tell me where I can get a bright green megaphone from? Plus do go through the other videos too espcially when the go to Camden.
